Do know how to set goals? Far too often, people either set unrealistic goals or they only set a long term goal and get discouraged along the way because it seems like they will never reach the goal. There is a secret to achieving goals. This is a secret that is so simple, anyone can do it and yet so profound that you will consistently achieve. The secret – the right way to set goals – is to think small. Set several realistic goals that you can attain incrementally on the way to the big goal. Hitting your milestones will keep you motivated and on track to reach the big goal.
Daily Goals
These are the simplest of the simple. A daily goal is just as the name implies – something you achieve every day. You went to the gym today? goal met. Having a daily goal does a couple of things – it keeps you accountable with daily habits and it gives you an accomplishment every day. Knowing you have achieved one of your goals can maintain motivation.
Quarterly Goals
As you hit those daily goals, you can work towards something bigger and more meaningful – a quarterly goal. This is where you can really see the fruits of your labor. I recommend that your daily goal be something that keeps you in line with the quarterly goal. For example, you may have a daily goal of going to the gym and another of consuming less than 1,500 calories. Your quarterly goal may be to lose 24 pounds (2lbs per week x 12 weeks). If you are a content creator, you may have a quarterly goal of increasing your followers by 300. That gives you a daily goal of about 6 followers per day.
1 Year and Beyond
As I’m sure you have guessed, the yearly goals is built by the quarterly goals and goals beyond a year are built by the yearly goals. This is the right way to set goals. Consider the goals and Lego blocks – you start small, but those blocks eventually become a building.
