Finding your Voice – the key to obtaining subscribers

There are about 25 million YouTube channels in existence. In any given niche there are probably tens of thousands of creators, all uploading and hoping to be the next breakout viral sensation. So out of all of those channels, why should anyone watch you? That’s one of the most important things you have to figure out. Once you have done so, you will have found your voice. Finding your voice is paramount to your channel’s success.
Not everyone has the same talents. you may not be creative. You may not be technical. Although you don’t want to admit it, you may not be funny. That’s okay. you have to take the gifts you do have and utilize them in such a way that people are drawn to your content. it IS possible. Not everyone knows what their voice is, and that’s okay. With the help of a few friends and a little self exploration, you can figure it out. Where’s your notepad? Here comes the part where you will need it.
Determine your Message
A possible first step to finding your voice is to think about the message you want your channel to convey. How do you want people to see your channel? Do you have a serious channel or is it more light hearted and humorous? This will help to set the tone and narrow down your decision. Next, talk to some friends. Ask them what they think about the type of person you are. Take notes. You don’t want your channel to be “fake” – you don’t want to convey a personality which is not your own. If your friends view you a certain way, chances are your viewers will as well.
You can’t please everyone
In your quest for subscribers, one thing you have to keep in mind is that through it all, you have to be you. Not everyone will like you, and that’s okay. There are plenty who will be drawn to you and will return consistently because of that. Don’t lose yourself while trying to find your audience.
What’s your obsession?
This is another key to finding your voice. I HATE accounting with the utmost passion. If I was running an accounting channel, I’d be miserable. I can only imagine how boring my vids would be. Why? because I don’t give a crap about accounting. It is much easier to put out quality content and in your natural voice when it is a topic that you are passionate about.
Finally, ask yourself this question – who are you making content for? it should be a specific audience; something you are committed to. That’s where your voice will manifest. If you are making content for everybody, then you aren’t making content for anybody.
